WIW: Vest for Success

First things first: huge shout out and hug to bj1111 for sending over this amazing Allsaints vest with the coolest origami pockets! I had loved wearing my linen vest in my Tom Petty outfits, and this is a more than stellar F/W version. I will hug it and squeeze it and love it forever. :)

The skirt was a dollar find, NWT, that I had put up on Ebay but never sold. Finally, I figured the price was lowered enough that it was worth it to me to just keep it for myself. Wearing it to Dress for Success later today, but also to a doctor's appointment, just in case it goes longer than I expect.

In other news, I *really* need a "dress shoe" alternative to my Report Marks! They straddle the great divide very nicely, but they are still casual. If you remember my walkable pump post, I've tried a bunch of the recs since then - gratefully, I spotted many at the flea market and was able to try for free. I seem to have very picky feet, however, especially for 8-hour pumps - so easy to go wrong with a vamp that can cut into your foot if it fits slightly wrong or is too stiff.

If you have any tried and true 8-hour dress shoes, I am alllll ears. :)

    KILLER!

    Yay, bj111!

    Loved your thread title :)

Fidji and Chie Mihara for walkable pumps.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

I think I may have tried that vest but found the waist too tight. It is STELLAR on you!

  • MsMary replied 11 years ago

LOVE!! That skirt is so pretty, and the vest is beyond fab!!

The girls over at Corporette seem to swear by the Cole Haan "air" pumps.

  • Mo replied 11 years ago

Winner, winner, chicken dinner! Why would you have ever listed that fab $1 skirt?? This is great together. Hope your commute in the heat isn't too terrible. I feel like finally some of you in LA are feeling like I do every day over here lol.

Cool vest! I think I tried it on at some point, but it was too long in the armholes and waist for me. I love how you've paired it with the skirt and bare arms - the vest over tank look is something I only just recently got into, and I've only done it so far with BF jeans, but I think I need to try with a skirt too!

ETA: Curious to know about the shoes too. I kind of gave up to be honest. If I actually need to walk and stuff, I just wear boots. Although I might get some heeled oxfords. Is something like this dressy enough for you?

You can get some shooties instead of pumps. However, I think you need these booties in your life:

I think this is an amazing outfit. I love the vest! So nice of BJ1111 to send over!

Wonderful vest. There are some great dressier flats out now and they are great for walking.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Thanks for the boosts and suggestions! Most cole haan heels that i found were too spindly or flew off my heel, which stinks so far because they are comfy for sure. Diana, a heeled oxford may be the answer... I was hoping to jump right into boots soon but it's so hot! May have to bite the bullet one day and try fidji ir CM as Angie said. Quickly learning that feet are a money pit!

  • Diana replied 11 years ago

Would either of these work? The heel is too high for me, but you can wear higher heels than me.

Love that skirt! So glad you kept it!

I walk all over the place in these pumps, little Zap borrows them too! They might be too ladylike for you but I'm just throwing the option. I have them in red, nude and black patent. The have a cushioned insole and the finish is divine. They look a lot pricier than they really are.

It is quite funny that the Ash boots and these pumps coexist in the same closet :)

LOVE THIS!!! What a fabulous vest and bj111 - you are a sweetheart!

  • rachylou replied 11 years ago

    Talk about neato vest!

There's a survey over at Corporette on heels: http://corporette.com/2012/10/.....ble-heels/

From her readers, the Cole Haan Air heels win by a landslide, but there may be some others you could try there. For my narrow heels, I always have to put in those padded heel pieces in my shoes- otherwise my heel slides right out. My Anne Klein I-flex pumps are some of the most comfortable I've had- but they're still about a 6 hour shoe at best.
Good luck- let us know what you find!

Thanks for the links! The first Borns and the wedges are possibilities, but I think most are too high. The Marks booties are 3" so I'm aiming for that or lower.

I'm looking at these, too. I have Softspots sandals that work for me, and I read that Earth is good for arch support:

It's a good thing my appointment didn't go long - it's SO hot, I don't think I'll be able to walk to the bus stop with the wool vest on. Had to run home and switch to a black tank for commute, and I'll slip the vest on at DFS.

  • replied 11 years ago

Love this look, Rae! I can't imagine it being hot right now, all the trees outside my window are red and yellow!

  • Jem replied 11 years ago

You look amazing in that vest!!

  • bj1111 replied 11 years ago

so glad it fit just like i had imagined. ylf.

  • biscuitsmom replied 11 years ago

    Wow! Love it!

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

Oh that vest looks like it was made for you. Love it.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Fun! That's an amazing vest. I can't decide if I want it to stay warm or cool down by the time the meetup happens ;)

  • Debora replied 11 years ago

I LOVE this on you and hooray for bj1111! I just love the YLF sisterhood!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

    BJ, you rock!

Aida, trust me, you want it to cool down. Maybe not so that it's cold, but at least so we can walk to and from our cars without massive pit stains. -_-

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Ohh that does sound a wee bit too warm. When I checked the weather last night it said 75. That would be perfect, but if it's 100+ right now it seems unlikely?

  • rae replied 11 years ago

As of now, we're looking at highs of mid-70s for the YLF Shoptoberfest. That would be wonderful! Today it was 86 with a "real feel" of 91 in Costa Mesa... pretty darn steamy for a beach city. It was terrible inland where I was today.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Love the vest on you, Rae!

As you know, I have trouble finding pumps, but I must say the ones I got in leopard print (that also come in black) are working for me so far.

Great to know, Suz! I trust your feet implicitly after the rousing Report bootie success.
