Kicking Off My Own Mo-vember Challenge

Mo's monthly "wear all my ____" challenges have been so inspiring I just had to try one of my own now that the weather is behaving. For "Mo-vember," I challenge myself to wear all my jackets. It's only fitting to start off with the jacket Mo and I both own!

The rules are as follows:

1. Any jackets that go unworn by the end of the month must be purged from the system. Use it or lose it, Rae.

2. Jackets are defined as hip-length and shorter and able to be worn indoors as well as out. Anything else is a "coat" (at least in CA) and will probably have its own challenge in a month or two.

3. Jackets must be integrated into the outfit - not just slopped over my work uniform on the way out to my car.

4. Any new purchases made during the month DO count!

Victoria's Secret 4-in-1 jacket - Ebay
Cha Cha Vente dress - Macy's
Cristina bag - gift from Mom via TJ Maxx
Frye Vera boots - Amazon
Tiger necklace - Florence, Italy - chain via Ebay

Well, whaddya know, I can play too! Today I wore my fairly new cream tweed-y moto jacket to class. The rest of my outfit was pretty dull (bootcut jeans, cowboy boots, fine knit black sweater) but at least I got the jacket in there!

So tough so soft all in the same breath. I love it.

Great outfit, that dress fits you like a dream!

Now, to hard facts: how many jackets do you own? Is it possible to wear them all in the month of Mo-vember (yay pun twin!) or must you purge some? I am verklempt over you possibly having to lose some jackets. Say it ain't so!

  • Raisin replied 11 years ago

Good idea, perfect way to curate your wardrobe. How many jackets are you starting with?

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Julie, you've forced me to count! I have 27... dear me, I did not even know I had that many. o_0 That's not even counting two destined for dye.

While this is obviously less than the days in the month, it's still clearly too many. My problem is that I used to have 2 wardrobes, business and casual. Now they are one in the same and, as with any merger, some are going to get laid off.

  • Mo replied 11 years ago

Yay! Home run with this look! I'm still chucking over the MO vembers, hee hee.
And, yes, how many jackets are we talking about?? I *think* I have 14, not including coats, as you defined.

Oops - cross posted! Wow, 27 is a good amount. I'll be very curious to see how your challenge pans out for you!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Yeah, the number kind of staggered me, too. But in my defense I use jackets as shirts a lot. When we don't have crazy heat waves, I even use one every day in summer. Still...

  • JulieJohn replied 11 years ago

Rae - You are so funny! Laid off, LOL.

Good luck with the merger, it makes sense as a good way to see what items might be in the way now that your life has changed.

This one is a keeper I presume? Jackets are the only items I have a hard time letting go of.....I'll watch this with interest.

  • Ariadne replied 11 years ago

Great idea and love the outfit! I always thought that dress was a Bailey 44.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Great outfit and great challenge. Looking forward to seeing what doesn't get worn - hmmmm....should that then be "looking forward to NOT seeing"?

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

I will join you in this challenge for indoor jackets only. My outdoor jackets serve too many purposes to be tested this way. But motos, indoor jackets and blazers are fair game. At least I'm done with cardigans!

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

Regardless of the challenge, this is a great outfit! In regard to the challenge, looking forward to seeing all 27!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Um I cannot express how much I love this outfit.... and especially how amazing your hair UP works with this! OK, I can express it: A LOT :D

(What? Do better? OKOK: The body con, long dress is in perfect contrast to the very rugged boots and jacket. The moody colors are, of course, signature but I especially love that the jacket is lighter to keep the focus upwards. And having your hair up showcases your pretty face, and also the delicate jewelry which also makes a nice contrast against the rugged pieces. Also, good luck on the challenge!)

i recently counted jackets of my own and have roughly the same as you. What a fun challenge and a good way to force you to evaluate which ones you value and are appropriate for your changing lifestyle. Good Luck on this journey and I look forward to seeing more. Great look on this first one.!

Fab outfit, Rae! This reminds me I need to wear my Cha Cha dress. Back to your outfit, love the new jacket and bag with this, and you are really making me want the engineer type boot, love that too! Great challenge. You sure know how to have a good time with fashion!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Alright! Love having company for the challenge! Welcome, welcome.

Aida, I'm really glad you mentioned the hair... I have been liking my hair up with my Zella jacket, too, and realized I tend towards that every winter because of my obsession with interesting jacket/coat collars. It is really tempting me to a) put layers in the back of my hair to further the illusion of a short cut or b) go all out and get a shorter cut for the colder months - probably not chin length like this, but maybe shoulder length.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Okay: I am not at home until November 9. And I can't completely join you in this challenge because not all my jackets are cross-seasonal. But would it count if I joined with the intention of wearing all my fall/winter jackets? I think I have 12 fall-winter indoor (sometimes outdoor) jackets.

    Love your outfit, BTW.

  • Lyn D. replied 11 years ago

    Oh- got it now:
Wearing all my jackets is MUCH easier then letting my 'Mo' grow for a whole month ! :)

  • rae replied 11 years ago

LOL, Lyn! I think that's why Julie smartly added the hyphen... no participating in *that* Movember for me!

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Tough and feminine! Do you know how much I love this dress on you? The short jacket over the long length of the dress is perfect.

  • harmonica replied 11 years ago

Love! Perfect integration of tough and feminine. Especially love the yellow bag with this dark toned outfit

  • JR replied 11 years ago

    Love the outfit!

But my head is spinning at the thought of 27 jackets. I have, let me see, three... Four, if you count the one that my MIL just gave me that I might never wear. No point in my joining you in this challenge; all my toppers get worn very regularly.
