Manspiration Month: Colonel Saul Tigh

OK! There have been enough guesses and it's late enough in the day that I hope it's alright to reveal the answer: Colonel Saul Tigh of Battlestar Galactica - congrats to Diana, who got it right as the very first guess!

Since the Battlestar crew wears a uniform, I could have chosen any of the men as my inspiration - Zap's guess of Lee Adama (Apollo) was my first idea, since he is a great fighter and pilot. I next thought of Helo, who stood up for his relationship in the face of amazing adversity. Still, I settled on Tigh.

Colonel Tigh may have been a drunk for much of the BSG series, but I count him as a hero anyway. He had to deal with a cheating wife, a robot war, impending death/extinction, torture, a lost eye, one *truly* heartbreaking scene with his wife, and a whopper of a personal discovery - yet as much as he tried to self-destruct and had every reason to do so, he always seemed to pull it together and do what had to be done at the time.

As stated in the comments section, today's clues were:

- "battle"
- "star"
- "Colonel"
- "one eye out"
- "XO" (abbreviation for his title as second in command)
- also, the T for "Tigh" - although now I realize it could stand for "Thrace," too.

**********
Guessing today's inspiration might be a bit of a battle, but whoever does gets a gold star and a bucket of Colonel Sanders. Keep one eye out for clues! XO!

(posted as a tinyurl so I don't spoil the surprise)

    Am I right?

Love the outfit, by the way.

  • Erica replied 11 years ago

I have no idea, but you look fantastic.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Yay, Diana! Thank you for coming up with a great way to preserve the mystery!

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

Love this look -- low contrast, nice layering and proportions.

Now, I guessed wrong, but I won't say what my guess was until later -- I want to see whether anyone else makes the same guess!

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

As someone who would be completely lost at Comicon, I have no idea. But I like the outfit, the proportions look great on you especially that tank.

  • replied 11 years ago

    KT aka SB
    Right?

  • Janet replied 11 years ago

It's like Diana's and Zap's guesses morphed together and I love it! I'm a big BG fan!

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

You look tough and cute all at once! I love the colors and the tank shows off your awesome arms!

  • replied 11 years ago

Love you in a tank and olive clams! The boots are awesome with this! I'm officially not guessing on any of your outfits all month. I'm with Denise!

  • replied 11 years ago

You look fab! Meredith is right, tough and cute rolled into one!

  • replied 11 years ago

Duh it's MANspiration. It has to be LA aka A, then.
    So cool!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Fab outfit (kinda bad a**) - but no clue on who???

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

OK -- no one's said it yet. I was wrong, and I do know the correct answer now, but at first I thought you were ---- Mr. T. In his mowhawk days.

    "What's da matter.......fool!"

Of course I was totally lame in my guess -- Mr. T. would be dripping in gold. Perhaps you could put him on your list?

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Some great guesses here! I am glad I'm not the only one having fun with this.

Beth Ann, if I come across a pile of gold chains, I will add him to the list! lol

    Clues from the description were:
    - "battle"
    - "star"
    - "Colonel"
    - "one eye out"
    - "XO"

Should I reveal the answer?? :)

  • replied 11 years ago

I know, I know... It is...

I just LOVE this one on you. So tough and cute!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Aaaahhhh.... I know now too. Can't believe I didn't see it at first. ST indeed!

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

All right I peaked, but I also first thought of Mr.T like Beth Ann. Great outfit in any case!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

    KILLER

And BSG is KILLER too. You look a little like Starbuck here - although she was a lass :)

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

I can't believe I haven't had the time to watch BG yet. The early 80s version was so bad, and that's the only one I know. Great outfit!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

    Dramatic reveal above!

Una, you have to watch it! A fantastic series overall.

  • Nadya replied 11 years ago

Love this and your tribute to Saul!

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

Well, you look kickass cool, I must say! Once the SO and I finish watching The Wire (phenomenal, masterful, incredible!!!!!), I think we are going to get into BG. Can't wait.

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

You must do Doctor Who (my sci-fi favorite) You'd rock a bow tie!

  • Scarlet replied 11 years ago

I am liking these riddle posts, even if I am bad at them :)

  • fashionista replied 11 years ago

I have no idea, but you look gorgeously casual. And yes I love your expression. I have never seen one like this on you:-O

  • Janet replied 11 years ago

Angie, Starbuck rocks! She is my favorite.

Una, I only got into it two years ago, after it ended, upon the insistence of a couple of friends who are big fans. One of our friends is in a band that had Tricia Helfer (Six) in one of their music videos, and he said she was a totally nice and cool person to hang out with.

Just prepare to lose yourself in it for a few weeks! I downloaded multiple seasons and watched it while I was traveling, and I had a couple of marathon days where I just watched one episode after another.

I have a bad habit of ignoring a critically acclaimed show until its over and then watching the entire series on Netflix, so I'm always behind the times. I'm still catching up on The Wire, which is embarrassing because I know one if the writers!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Janet, DH and I purposely wait until some shows are over, just because we *want* to do those marathons - too painful to wait a week for a new installment! lol

I haven't even heard of The Wire, so I have to go look that up...

Fashionista, it's different, right? I suppose that is half the fun. :)

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Yeah! LOVE Tigh. So fun :)

Janet I loved Starbuck too! But the banter and realtionship between Admiral Adama and Saul Tigh was my best, best, best. They rocked like I have never seen two old men rock. I liked President Laura a lot too. I loved Apollo until he went into politics.

I only watch these shows in marathon session too, Rae. I can't handle waiting a week for the next installment. BSG and the Wire were the best TV shows ever produced in my opinion. Breaking Bad comes in next. Spartacus was incredible too. The Killing is good. And Mad Men is a feast for the eyes. I am finding Game of Thrones very fragmented.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Yes! Loved Tigh's banter with Adama - soft spot in my heart for crusty old "sailors" after that show.

Wow, so many shows I have to add to the list - waiting for Breaking Bad for sure, as Bryan Cranston was my absolute favorite on Malcolm in the Middle. I agree about Game of Thrones... IMO there are not nearly enough episodes in each season, and they are cramming too much plot into too little time. If you haven't read the book, it is very hard to pick up every line of dialogue, and *every single word* seems to be an important plot point... can be exhausting!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

EXACTLY. I watch Game of Thrones with three others who have read the books and they have to explain things to me all the time. It's tricky and I have a hard time remembering all the weird names. Although I seldom forget Ghost's name. I also wish that Geoffrey would undergo the very worst torture known to man.

Downton Abbey is brilliant too. So is Band of Brothers (although you have to be in WW2 to appreciate that).

  • Janet replied 11 years ago

I'm enjoying GOT -- Peter Dinklage is the best! I also love Mad Men and Breaking Bad is excellent.

If you really want to reach back to an old show that was excellent TV and you like The Wire, catch the old Homicide: Life on the Street. I still miss that show! I got to meet some of the cast since they filmed all around my hometown. Melissa Leo, Richard Belzer, et. al... Andre Braugher was amazing in it, and if you like great interaction between characters, the partnership between him and Kyle Secor was absolutely amazing as it developed.

Oh, speaking of Andre Braugher, I enjoyed him in Men of a Certain Age. I liked Ray Romano in it much more than I expected to.

We've gone a bit off topic here, huh? But I love that you all love these shows too!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Band of Brothers was utterly, utterly phenomenal. Angie, don't give up on GOT - the third book/season has some very satisfying and emotional stuff.

Thank you both for the amazing show recs!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

I shan't, Rae! I am in it (GoT) for the long haul.

If you liked Band of Brothers, try Pacific - same directors and vibe. My Papa literally lived through the story on Band of Brothers. He recognized so many of the scenes. They were very realistic I believe. Mind blowing.

Yes, Janet! The old Homicide episodes are fab! Not as compelling as the Wire though, but an excellent show nonetheless :)

We watch reruns of Seinfeld every night. We know all the shows backwards. The most brilliant comedy show on earth. George is MY BEST. (I am not a Sex And The City fan, which might surprise you).

  • MsMary replied 11 years ago

OMG I was gonna say you needed an eye patch, but I see you totally have that handled!

    *swoon*

  • cheryl replied 11 years ago

I love this look on you! I can't wait to show my husband and give him the clues, lol. I'm sure he will guess it right away.
