Manspiration Month: Jason Dean a.k.a. JD (Heathers)

Since most didn't recognize my references from this post, I'll take it a sign from above that it is now my holy duty to introduce you to the film "Heathers." Christian Slater, Wynona Rider, and a super dysfunctional high school make for hilarious dark satire and enopugh notable quotes to last the rest of your life. If you haven't seen it - DO.

The inspiration for my outfit was the charachter JD (yes, it *is* apt that his initials also mean "juvenile delinquent), a new kid in town who sorta kinda helps his new girlfriend get rid of her shallow, mean-girl frenemies. I don't know when the bad-boy-in-a-black-trench thing started, but the film embraces the stereotype. Even though it was too hot to duplicate JD's look completely, I absolutely had to wear the iconic black trench!
**********
Greetings and salutations!

Perhaps Heather will know this juvenile delinquent's name? Or maybe Veronica? Wait, what's my damage - did I have a brian tumor for breakfast? Why choose a delinquent? Well, let's just say the other options would have me dressing like a bunch of swatch dogs and diet coke heads or bundled up like an Eskimo... since it's hot today, I went with the option allowing for a short sleeved trench. And anyway, who among us doesn't think it's Big Fun to blow up now and again?

Alright, ladies, it's been a great post, but I've got to motor if I want to make that work thing. It'll be very.

Oh Rae, I don't know if I've seen the striped bag in action yet SOOOOOOO FAB! Love it with the red dress, pumps and cropped jacket. You look ridiculously good!

  • milehighstyle (Linda) replied 11 years ago

LOVE this outfit! And love that movie!

  • Diana replied 11 years ago

Don't know today's manspiration but I love the cropped jacket over the dress.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Okay, I'm not sure of this one but I'm guessing anyway - does it involve the movie line "Bulimia is so '87?" If so, it's one of my favorite movies! I want deets about the outfit too, especially the dress!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Yay, Una, you got it! How VERY!

I didn't plan it this way, but the entire outfit is secondhand:

    - Dress: Ann Taylor via swap meet
    - Cropped trench: random junior's brand via swap meet
    - Snakeskin pumps: Mossimo via Goodwill
    - B. Makowsky "shimmer" satchel: via Ebay, then painted as a DIY

I hope you can find a career direction in which your creativity involves words as you have shown in your Manspiration posts in addition to visuals. My sense is that your current position involves numbers since it is in the financial industry, so that it does not involve the same type of creativity.

Thanks for throwing us clueless ones yesterday's bone. At least now, I not batting xero for *X*; it is one for *X*, lol. Or maybe it's two, since I also got Col. Tye.

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

Okay, I have no idea, but your outfit is smokin' and fab!!

  • Kirti replied 11 years ago

Wow you rock this cropped jacket :-)

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

What a lovely dress and cropped jacket on you! I see you are back to giving out hard clues! :(

  • Sylvie replied 11 years ago

Your clues lead me to a movie that involves a triumvirate, although I don't remember the visuals well enough to link it back to the outfit. Will now "cheat" and google it.

Google confirms I got it! Yay!

    PS. You look nice. :)

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Oh, yay! I got this one purely on what you wrote - am racking my brain to figure out the outfit, which I'm assuming is JD?

    Que sera sera!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Yes, Una and Sylvie, I had an outfit in mind with my long, black trench and a lot more black, but the weather did not cooperate. Was going to layer the mini trench over a black dress, but the laundry did not cooperate.... pretty sorry manspiration, I guess, with the only "inspired" element being the black coat!

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

LOVE this outfit! Even though I haven't met its inspiration, only heard of it (Una's clue clued me in!). Donna makes a good point about all this creativity needing a good day job! --- though possibly your second life as a rock star is a fab outlet too. (loved the shoutout to all heathers)

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

This has a simple colorblocked 60s look to it that I like. And ... I wonder, did any of the design inspiration for your DIYed purse come from this animal?

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Manidipa and Donna - you are both right. Paper pushing drives a creative mind slowly insane...

Denise, you know, it might have influenced me subconsciously! I love ring-tailed lemurs, and I still have a stuffed animal version I bought many many years ago with money I saved up. :)

  • rae replied 11 years ago

    Reveal/explanation/movie plug up top!

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Oh, how I loved this movie - and I saw it IN THE THEATRE, in 1988!

  • rachylou replied 11 years ago

*Heathers* is an all time classic!

But wait, is Christian Slater still alive?

  • qpswan replied 11 years ago

Love the outfit - excellent proportions!

  • Katiepea replied 11 years ago

OK, so now you are making me want to visit the video shop to relive the glorious 80's.

You look beautiful and very cool!
