Manspiration Month: Angus MacGyver

Did any of you actually know MacGyver's first name? I had to look it up while trying to think of clues! With a last name like MacGyver, you really should just legally drop your first name, right?

I used to watch this show all. the. time. I still know the theme song! Even back then, I loved that DIY spirit. No escape route? Rig one up from clothesline and a bike handle, duh. No backup on the way? This lightbulb will be my backup, TYVM. A super-smart secret agent - what could be cooler to a kid with very little sense of agency?

As Angie pointed out, Mac's style is pretty darn 80s: blouses, tight jeans, and his ubiquitous leather jacket (which hits right at his waistband - no lower). I don't usually like 80s style, but this is still rugged, so it felt okay. All I need now is a mullet and a pair of aviator sunglasses. :)

**********
Many ladies may have considered him prime Angus beef, but it's no secret he's a hero because of his big ol' scientific brain. He can explode a building with duct tape and a Swiss Army knife, but don't ask him to carry a gun, because he's a pacifist like that. I also wouldn't tell Patty and Selma Bouvier I'm dressed like him today, or I may only escape that exploded building as a phoenix rising from the ashes...

I think I know this one (starts with M)....you look so great in that blouse and I love the outfit with the jacket and map bag - perfect!

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 11 years ago

I will add to Shannon's answer by guessing it starts with Mac.

Nice outfit Rae. I like the use of the opposite colors in the top and jacket.

    I know... mG:)
    Great blouse and jeans!
I love those nexx blouses on you. I am not too crazy about mine, since I had to size up so the arms are not tight. I love the color and it looks better as a tunic, but I won't be duplicating.

Okay, I actually get your references on this one (still kicking myself that I couldn't figure out Kurt Cobain from your clues, for crying out loud)! You are looking fab and ready to fashion a weapon out of a can opener, a piece of twine, and a belt :).

A paperclip can be a wondrous thing. More times than I can remember, one of these has gotten me out of a tight spot.

You look great, love that shirt!

  • greenglove replied 11 years ago

I have been completely out of the loop and have no idea who you are talking about, but love the outfit! The turquoise blouse and rust jacket are gorgeous!

  • RandomThoughts (Andrea) replied 11 years ago

I have that SNL spoof stuck in my head now. Thanks a lot!

You look wonderful. I do love those shoes.

  • Diana replied 11 years ago

MG! Love the turqoise shirt with the map bag, and the brown leather is just perfect for channeling today's inspiration.

I think you need to show us what kind of common, harmless household items you have in your bag. ;)

  • rae replied 11 years ago

LOL @ Diana - here goes:

    - breath spray
    - various travel perfumes
    - chapstick & lipstick
    - keychain (deadly!)
    - car keys
    - lotion
    - sunglasses
    - cellphone

What do you think? Key components for a defibrulator? Hanglider? Time Machine?

  • Kirti replied 11 years ago

I have no guesses as always, but you look stunning!

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

I only got this one after reading more comments, I am pretty bad at puzzles, games, etc. But I love the simple outfit and the jacket is perfect! Anna -- the other great tool, besides a paper clip, is a wire hanger! BF fixed our shade sail with one last night.

  • Erica replied 11 years ago

I think I know who this one is :D Loving your outfits!

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

Nice color mix, Rae, and I like the bold, manly belts. This reference I get. Where's the mullet?

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

I think I know this one too! Is he from the '80s?

Great outfit! Quite masculine, but feminized by your long locks. Loving the Nexx blouse!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Yes, Angie, I am finally in an 80s-inspired look! :D

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Yay! The '80s! His surname begins with an M....no?

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

SNL spoofed him, yes? My MIL is in love with him (and she's 82!). Nice clues!

We have a friend who is nicknamed after this character - he once saved us all from hypothermia by pulling out a sat-phone to call for help.

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

I know who you mean but the name isn't surfacing yet. You look gorgeous in that blouse and ready to take on any emergency.

  • Inge replied 11 years ago

Oh I know this one too!-) I LOVE your riddles and the challenge, Rae! And the cool green of your shirt looks amazing with that fun brown jacket.
Also: is that a bag with a map print!!?? So cool! I am obsessed with map prints.

  • christieanne replied 11 years ago

Love it and the reference. We use his name as a verb around here.

Rust and aqua are unique but really nice together!

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

What a tricky GUY you are emulating! :)

  • Mo replied 11 years ago

This is fun! (I didn't know Patty & Selma had a thing about him though)

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Yay, Mo, you finally got to play!

  • Sylvie replied 11 years ago

That mint blouse looks fantastic on you! I figured out whom it was from the description. Thanks for letting me play!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Oooh this minty blouse is just SUPERB on you Rae!! Love the outfit!

(That Simpsons episode is hilarious ^^)

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Heh heh! Thanks for playing, everyone! This was a fab trip down memory lane - Christieanne, I love to MacGyver things, too. :)

Big reveal, inspiration pics, and gushing added up top.
