Put Her In Neutrals

DH snapped a pic while we were out enjoying a museum today. It was overcast and rainy, so I originally had my caramel trench over the top of everything, but it was actually too warm for it, much to my dismay. This cashmere sweater dress, left over from the office days, was much more insulating than I thought.

Also fun? I'm pretty sure I ended up in a couple of lady tourists' vacation photos while sitting on the museum tram. People could not stop commenting on my boots today - at the museum, chiropractor's office, and even the 99 Cents store. Geez, talk about a statement piece... I must remember not to wear them when I want to slink into the shadows. o_0

Three Dots hoodie - flea market (50 cents!)
Cashmere sheath - flea market
Bullet necklace - gift from a friend
Gap jeggings - Gap

I like the proportions of the dress and long topper and yes the boots are eye grabbers!

  • Mo replied 11 years ago

I can see why the boots garner attention! Great outfit that gives them room to shine, with just the dangling bullet to counter balance up top.

Great boots. I have never heard of that shoe store.

  • qfbrenda replied 11 years ago

I love that look... nice and simple but a real statement at the same time. Awesome boots!

  • MsMary replied 11 years ago

Gorgeous! No wonder you stopped traffic all day!

  • sarah replied 11 years ago

Very cool and I love your dress with that foliage in the background.

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

Ah! A great lesson that a simple, classic background lets powerful accessories shine!

BTW --- All bullets should be made into necklaces. I'd buy ten of 'em, and earrings, too. Let's buy up all the bullets in the world, and look great doing it!

You look amazing. I like how the neutrals all blend together, but more than that, they really let the beauty of each piece shine. Ad those boots! No wonder you got compliments on them all day! They are perfect!

You found that beautiful cashmere sheath at the fleamarket?! Perfect proportions and way to show off those boots.

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

I don't know that I've ever seen you in burgundy before, but it's a terrifically flattering color on you. You look lovely!

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 11 years ago

I call that the "That Girl Syndrome" , when you go out and everywhere you go you are receiving compliments... We should celebrate those moments in time and embrace them... After all we put so much effort into looking good that we deserve to be noticed.

Congratulations and you deserved it! Great outfit and those boots are something special!

Rae, you look so warm and cute and huggable! *SQUISH*

I always think 'skinny jeans' on a rainy day, but a cashmere dress makes a lot of sense. I think looking at your boots gave people pleasure. And gave them an excuse to talk to you, which is a friendly gesture.

So no hiding out allowed, K?

  • Hil replied 11 years ago

Rae - just wow! That is a fantastic look! Those boots rock!!!

  • jayne replied 11 years ago

This looks so great, Rae! I so wish those boots were available in my size! But if I can only enjoy them vicariously through you, so be it.

  • Raisin replied 11 years ago

Great pic, the tree is a lovely backdrop. I love your outfit, the browns are gorgeous with your complexion.

You guys are so fun, getting out to a museum. I don't think I would ever think of that on my days off...not that we have any good ones nearby anyway. I should get out more though.

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Well the boots are amazing and the outfit looks great. The short sheath with longer topper is a favourite look of mine and autumn leaves in the background work beautifully against your ensemble :)

  • kkards replied 11 years ago

    lovely!

  • Astrid replied 11 years ago

  • catherine replied 11 years ago

What a great look on you. Although I must say, you have looked gorgeously and uniquely beautiful in every single pic I've ever seen here.

Love this, with the soft/minimal dress and tough/maximal boot! Perfection.

  • Debora replied 11 years ago

Rae, this is such a gorgeous outfit on you. Amazing boots! No wonder you turned heads All day long. I love how you paired the boots with the sheath and long topper. I've been looking for a topper like this for ages and am totally jealous of your great find.

  • AJ replied 11 years ago

A cashmere sheath sounds yummy! Luv the neutral colors and those FAB boots can't help being the center of attention! YLF!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Love this neutral but rich colour palette and of course, the boots are indeed the star of the show. How could people not comment? I love the way you've layered the sheath dress over jeggings.

  • Alecia replied 11 years ago

I'm loving black, brown and gold these days. You are a textbook example of why in this picture. You look gorgeous. I LOVE this. Those boots are fabulous.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Oh wow, now this is just so lovely Rae! Doesn't look like something I'd expect to see you wear... until I get to the jeans+boots and then it all makes sense. And a cashmere sheath?? That sounds heavenly for cool weather! I tend to break out my sweater dresses when it's cold, too (none are cashmere though). I'm generally off cardigans, buuuut I could definitely see myself wearing my two long ones I still have in a similarly styled way, thanks for the inspiration! Also also, FAB hair today ^^

(Can I pin you? You won't be able to hide if I do :} )

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

I would definitely ask you about those boots! I love love love the outfit and the colors. I just bough a wool/cashmere cocoon thing by Alice & Olivia at the consignment store (with credit) - so cozy! It's this but in black, and I paid 1/3 of this price...

    Oh this totally works.

  • Day Vies replied 11 years ago

The boots just have that unexpected kick to them and just rev up the entire outfit -- those people have great taste. I just like that the outfit is a simple strong statement -- Totally Rae

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

    Just lovely, Rae.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Una, you lucky duck, that cowl looks so soft and cozy. Great deal!

These are the boots. They are an interpretation of a super spendy Ann Demeulemeester design. Sizes 6, 7, and 8 left. :) They are a little tall in the front, but I just fold the top down and it works fine.
