Found this 100% leather jacket by To The Max (a BCBG brand) for $1 and could not pass it up when I saw it has a cotton-lined body and mesh-lined sleeves. It is not the best quality of leather and squeaks a tiny bit... but it's distressed! With rivets! And a racing stripe!
I was picturing it thusly a la Burberry for fall, but I had a sudden urge to wear it out to see Dr. Shrink today, so I went for a moto-sports-inspired look with skinnies and boots. Since I'm not tall, I prefer my cropped jackets with a column of color. The sun decided to make an appearance, so I went with spring-y light grays and black patent. Yes, I suppose black and gray are my idea of spring colors... lol.

You are a vision in taupe! We were on the same wavelength today, I am also in a column of taupe + boots + topper. SWEET jacket, I adore the racing stripe. I wish I could find some cropped toppers that fit my shoulders, weren't ridiculously loose at the waist, and were actually short enough!! Preferably as cool as this one :)

PS: I am really liking your hair at this length! -
Love this, and I would so steal that jacket if it was in my size. Our flea markets around here suck. I am so envious of yor finds!

I REALLY LOVE this. What a fab find that jacket is. The MK jackets Angie posted about have cotton lining in the body of the white one, which pleases me, but synthetic on the sand one. Maybe some of the sand ones have cotton but I didn't check.

A tonal outfit with layers! I LOVE it. My love of tonal layering has been going on for over a year, which is a really long style relationship for me.

Seriously, this looks fabulous! But next time, I want to see the Stig in the background. At least a Stig cutout. -

And I'm awed that you manage to find such amazing bargains at the flea market.
Too cool for words! -
Thanks, ladies! I've been trying not to buy much at the flea market now that I'm trying to upgrade my favorites, so it feels great to know I can still find things worth a spot in the closet.

K and Carolbee, I'm glad you got the title! Hehe, gotta save up for that Stig cutout. ;) -
Well. You know what I am going to say, right?

This is fantastic! What a great buy that jacket was! The racing stripe is so much fun. And imagine a cotton lining! Lucky you.
I think this illustrates the principle that as long as you would love to have it if it were full price (even if you couldn't pay for it) then thrifting an item can make sense. It's all about being super-choosy, which you are. -
I love this jacket.

You've got serious shopping skills Rae - that is an amazing find and looks so ridiculously great on you. The stripe on the jacket seems so on trend but not trendy - if that makes sense.

$1??? Fantastic Rae - like Suz said, this is brilliant thrift shopping. Love the super crop style on you and the jacket's overall look is very "you". The whole outfit is a beautiful tonal look with some edge.

About
I'm just your average working stiff who loves nice things and hates to pay for them. This blog outlines my efforts to navigate that treacherous shopping/saving divide through swappin', thriftin', and even a little resellin'. Many of the pieces in my wardrobe cost me just $1! We've heard a lot about people "living above their means" in recent years; I'm championing the concept of living large *below* your means - whatever that means for you. :)
