Used Future

Today I've managed to combine old things that look new (flea market bag and pants and knit silk tee, F21 jacket that has been shaved of pills many times) and new things that look old (distressed boots, leather belt clips). Felt very steampunk-has-some-business-to-attend-to, so of course the happiness factor was high. It isn't everyone's cup of tea to pair subdued shades with shocking brights, but the contrast appeals to me. :)

ETA: I've come to the conclusion that my makeup just doesn't come through well in these outdoor photos. I'm wearing just as much eyeliner, shadow, etc. as in my last post, but here I look way more washed out and bare. I guess that is why they always say to wear more makeup for the camera than for real life...

F21 Blazer - F21
Brochu Walker knit silk tee - flea market
Men's belt - flea market
Belt clips - flea market
Chainmail watch - gift from friend
Gap really skinny pants - flea market
Nine West bag - flea market
Vic Matie boots - Yoox

I love the juxtaposition, Rae. Very nice indeed. I really like seeing your WIWs!

Oh, I like this! I think I may copy with some orphans soon! Thanks for the inspiration!

LOVE! This is how I like to wear muted shades, too. /highfive fellow brights/muteds mixer! Glad to see that orange blazer is still going strong, I haven't felt weather-compelled to pull mine out yet.. but sooooon. And how much of everything does that sweet bag go with, huh!??

I forgot all about this blazer Rae - oh my, wear it more often - the colour is fab on you! Great combination of items.

Are you getting used to your shorter cut now?

  • Thistle replied 11 years ago

I love that orange on you. So bright and happy. I like the juxtaposition of sci fi and "used". Makes me think Firefly.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

I love this colour mix on you! And I am so enjoying your new hair. I hope you are, too.

    KILLER

Heh, While others are looking at the color combo, I am drooling over the proportions you've created. I LOVE that wide belt in combination with the short rise of the pants. This would be a great formula for you to re-create again and again.

It looks awesome, I love the unexpectedness of the bag and boots. I see makeup:)

I love the bright color of the blazer in combo with the rest of your outfit. It's fun to combine the old with the new! And I hear you about the make-up, I'm pale to begin with and the camera ALWAYS makes me look all washed out.

    Love!

Wow. You look so chic and tough and urban all rolled into one. I love this look on you, Rae, and I LOVE your hair :)

abc and Caro - Thank you!!

Ceit, I am very excited to see your version. Very high likelihood that it will inspire me right back.

Aida, seriously, the bag goes with ALL. I shudder to think that I stood there a good ten minutes debating whether or not I needed it.

Shannon and Suz, I'm still a bit anxious for it to grow, but I'm definitely more used to it. It is fun to catch sight of myself in a mirror and see something so new. :)

Thistle, you know anything Firefly makes my day, right?

Angie, I am honored by the K-rating. Makes me feel much stronger for when I go back into the old salt mines. ;)

Claire, I definitely do wear a wide belt with a low rise a lot... something about it just feels right on my short abdomen. You have a keen eye to notice!

Zap, I'm glad you can see the makeup. I'd hate to think I'm not wearing enough. I'm about at my tolerance now.

Karie, isn't it weird/aggravating how the camera does that? It can be a tough choice to pick from looking better IRL or looking better in pictures that will hang around for who knows how long.

ETA: Thanks, Kelly - I think you posted while I typed. You always add a nice toughness to your outfits as well.

I think you look GORGEOUS! Not washed out, your skin looks porcelain smooth.

And all of your outfits seem like they are up an extra notch from your new haircut. I can't get enough of it!

  • Mo replied 11 years ago

Great used/new mix. I hear you on the makeup not coming through. You look great!

  • Ingunn replied 11 years ago

I love the colors and the mix of refined and rough! A great outfit, Rae, and I don't see that you're washed out. The orange blazer is just so fab on you.

  • Greek Goddess replied 11 years ago

You look great, now this is a look I would wear as well. I love the blazer colour

  • Mona replied 11 years ago

WHat a great mix of muted and bright! You look fab in sour brights and I am always impressed by your bags.

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

Love! That haircut has turned you into a style goddess!

  • Sarah A replied 11 years ago

Inspirational! Love the tough meets polished vibe. And the blazer is a fab color, great with the dark blue shell underneath.

  • rachylou replied 11 years ago

This is a really great one! I think the boots are just right color and style-wise for the jacket and top. They take a little of the shine off the polish of the jacket and top.

  • Tina.b replied 11 years ago

This in my mind is the perfect combination of elements. The belt and the boots contrast so well with the silky t and blazer. Very modern. And the belt clips are awesome. Love this look!

(Rae, I have found that with photos, and outdoors especially, you really need exaggeration for some things to come across on camera. Contrast can get lost, subtle makeup gets lost, even volume can get lost (think of how many BF jean photos don't seem to properly show how much slouch is actually happening). Something that looks more extreme in person can look quite "normal" in photos. It is an interesting thing, and also something I tend to keep in mind when viewing other street or blogger outfits. In my own photos for example, on most days I am wearing quite a strong lip color, and yet in the photos it ends up coming across as borderline natural. It's just something that goes with the territory I think.)
