WIW: I surrender!

Today I have a day at the office and then DH and I are meeting for an advanced screening of Total Recall afterward, so I had to bring a change of clothes with me - the office A/C has not been working properly lately, but no way would I survive a cold theater in a skirt and breezy top.

Normally, I'd want to wear this waist-surrendering poncho with a slim, tapered skirt - or at least pants fitted to the knee - but I was feeling very loosey goosey this morning. Waist surrender *and* knee surrender won out. Caution: thrown to the wind! Or it would be if there was any semblance of such an airflow in the office today...

For the movie, I brought along my new Gap Sexy Boyfriend jeans. Some of you mentioned in Angie's BF jeans blog post that this style hides a perfectly good tush - so I guess I'm adding "butt surrender" to the list for the day. ;)

This cape-like blouse is soooo perfect, Rae! It passes the marks for the office and for play! Brilliant!

p.s. I dig that wash of denim! So 90s.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

    I LOVE it! Especially #2. That's a k-word worthy look.

    What's BRB?

  • Claudia replied 11 years ago

    Be right back?

    LOVE #2!

  • replied 11 years ago

Are those your new boyfriend jeans? Great look with that top.

  • Diana replied 11 years ago

    LOVE both of these!

(But I thought you were kind of lukewarm on the whole big tee thing....)

  • MsMary replied 11 years ago

    Aiyeee!! Screaming with delight!!!!!!!!!!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

    Thanks, all!

Yes, BRB = Be right back.

Ceit, yes, these are the Gap SBFs. I love them even more now that I've tried them with the saturated top. :)

Diana, I never thought of this as a big tee - even though the sleeves are voluminous, it is really not that big through the body. The opening is also tapered in from the bust. I can see now how it does provide the benefits and vibe of a big tee, but in a way I can handle. Who knew??

Love both ourfits especially the boyfriend jeans!

  • rute replied 11 years ago

Like both looks but I'm in love with no. 2! I might have to copy that one ;)

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

Love both ways and also both pairs of boots!

  • replied 11 years ago

    rae,

Both looks are super, but I REALLY like #2!! The tee with it's very wide sleeves provides the balance I'm forever banging on about! And I LOVE that zinging yellow tote!!! It all goes to show that style is never a question of money, but of a good eye, and an even better dose of panache!! YOU, my dear, clearly have bucketloads of that!! GOOD FOR YOU!!, and enjoy the film! :-)

BTW, is there a conspiracy here on the YLF boards to FORCE me to like (adopt, even??) boyfriend jeans? It sure feels like it! Worse, it feels like it just might succeed! :-)

  • rae replied 11 years ago

La Francaise, if there is a conspiracy, they have succeeded with me! I initially took one look at the rise on these jeans and thought, "Oh, no. Far too manly, even for me." But the cut and drape turned out to all work with the long rise - I can't beleive I so nearly passed them by.

Another SBF convert! I'm wearing mine today (well, one of my pairs!). I absolutely adore both of these looks, as you can imagine. Are you converting to the big slouchy top look a bit now? I think this works with the slouchy jeans because of the tapering - prevents the rectangle look.

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

I loved that top when you first got it! It's looking fab with the skirt and the denim!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

I don't know about full conversion to big, slouchy tops, but I've been known to visit the church with a friend from time to time. ;) Here's another one I wore recently.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

I really like both of these looks Rae - and you are making me wanna get my BF's out and about. If only it weren't so darned hot!

  • christieanne replied 11 years ago

Now that's how to mix things up! I like the slouchy jeans with the slight volume on top - it is contrary to any rules of form fitting tops but it works. Throw all the rules 9self imposed or otherwise) away and play :)

De-bombshelling the skirt with the top is genius as well.

  • replied 11 years ago

    Fab looks, clever Rae!!!

  • JR replied 11 years ago

    :o)

What else can I say? These are great looks.

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

I'm humming the old gospel hymn....."I surrender all...." Sometimes letting go is a very good thing! Love this -- especially #1, but then, I bat for team dressy! Hope your night was wonderful!

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

Love #2. But you would have had me at BF jeans anyway. Love the combo (belt, bag...) and I'm afraid if I surrendered my butt noone would be there to accept the surrender. :)

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

WOW both of these are amazing, Rae!! That top is incredible on you. It looks awesome in both outfits, but I am particularly fond of how you went with light/nude footwear in #2 because I'm a huge fan of doing the same thing with a dark top :} And @(#& those BF jeans are making me reconsider not going to the GAP and trying them on, even after I'd decided to pass on this jean cut for now! If they work this well for you there's a good chance they will for me too.....

  • rae replied 11 years ago

christieanne, you said it about the rules - seems like we are all throwing them out the window these days. I think it helps that the wrists and ankles are exposed here to suggest some slimness.

High five, Jeanne! I love that you are a BF fan.

Aida, if you have any room for another pair of jeans, I think you'd like these. They are like our baggy shorts, except they happen to cover more leg. I think they might fall in line with your soft dressing, too - so nice and slouchy.

  • ramya replied 11 years ago

I love that Poncho.... Rae it's so nice...

And the BF jeans I like them on you guys really do. But I feel my DH wouldn't like them and he is so vocal about stuff he doesn,t like :D

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Rae this is a great look on you. The poncho is great, the length is perfect. I think #2 is just perfection with really good proportions. #1 with the skirt looks good too but #2 is the knock out.

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

    You look adorable!

Laughing ... and totally agreeing with the butt surrender point.

Coming to think of it, even more than the butt gets surrendered with boyfriend jeans. There's crotch surrender, and leg surrender too!
