WIW: stormy weather

Ok, so not quite storming - but definitely gray and wet. I don't think I have every rubric element covered in these, but as Shannon said, maybe all of the elements don't have to be there - just *enough* of them. I tried to add some "brightness" near the face in #1 in the form of a gold necklace with a white stone but it doesn't show in the photo. What do you think? Do I need to make more effort to touch on all my rubric elements, or are these just as good?

I personally think both of these are great Rae! Rubrics are awesome but I don't think we should be slaves to them. And love the yellow bag with the first outfit!

These outfits are perfect Rae. I always figure as long as I have a few of my rubric elements, I'm good to go. They keep me grounded but I don't need all of them all the time. I LOVE your blouse in outfit #1 and the yellow bag is such a delicious pop of colour.

Rubric qualifiers or not....you look incredible, Rae.

"You can plan a pretty picnic, but you can't predict the weather." Thanks, Outkast. ;D

What Tanya said by about a billion percent.

    Outkast??!! LOL

I clicked hoping you weren't having a Lena Horn kinda Stormy Weather time!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCG3kJtQBKo

    Looking good Rae!

great outfits, your legs look a mile long in both!

The blouse and bag in #1 are definitely brightening - seems right for this spring stormy stuff in California. And I just like #2. Deep blue is always a hit.

Love the yellow bag with the greys! Definitely an antidote to the skies. Both are beautiful outfits for you, Rae.

  • fern replied 12 years ago

The colors are stormy but the fit and proportions are great. Wow.
I don't think I'm missing brightness in 2, but your outfit does look more serious without it.
    Do you miss it?

Rae, I think these are perfect. I love the stormy colors with the yellow bag - like sun and storm together. In #1 the top is pretty "bright" to my eye too. I wore that combo a week ago and loved it. That long cardi looks great too. You look so long and tall in these pix!

  • rae replied 12 years ago

LOL @ Heather! Patty, I can't watch that video right now, but what tells me there will be more lols coming??

I am intrigued by the multiple long/tall comments - I've been thinking the same: strangely pleased with this where I used to feel too wide... however, my width and weight are the same, so what's the secret? Is it all in the outfits? I sort of feel like I should check to make sure my camera isn't dying and stretching the picture out somehow!

  • Meredith1953 replied 12 years ago

Both are beautiful outfits! I really love the yellow bag with the gray.

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

I love 'em both! #1 is perfectly spring Rae to me, a little lightness but still plenty of moody darks. #2 looks a bit dark to me but I'm in my wear-less-black-for-spring/summer mode already soooo ya know ;) How about popping on a white or cream bag with that one?

(OK Am I being oblivious or is your hair shorter? Did you get it cut and I somehow missed it?? :O )

  • rae replied 12 years ago

Aida, I cut my hair in... early March? Before I went on my trip. It was the first time I'd been to a salon in about 10 years!

And wouldn't you know it? I pulled out my bag with wide white stripes and saw it is in absolute tatters. It is faux leather on its last leg, but I am plotting a DIY something along these lines, involving lots of cats and a generous helping of white scrap leather.

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

WOW I am really slow then! It looks great, especially the bangs. That DIY sounds delicious, can't wait to see it :D

I think these both look great. I think the Rubric is a great tool for identifying elements for an outfit (especially when you are stuck) but no need to always include every element. You still look like your style here.

I'm with Jayne -- you look very long and lean in these outfits! And the yellow bag is fab.

  • Sveta replied 12 years ago

How do you feel about them? After all rubric is a tool to help you feel in your outfits, not the goal.
I like both of them and that yellow bag is fun!

  • rae replied 12 years ago

I felt pretty darn great in both outfits - and wait, I DID wear a brighter lip stain this morning, which is not my norm. Maybe my subconscious is starting to apply the rubric for me? o_0

Luv the first outfit, Rae! That top is FAB and the sunny yellow bag is the perfect finishing touch.

Luv the layered sleeves in the second outfit. The blue and brown mix looks good.

I also wondered if you recently cut your hair. I wonder why I didn't notice last month? Ugh, I'm getting old!
