Hair today, gone... later today!

The chop is done! 14 inches were donated through the salon, and I am no longer a long-locked lass!

I was really ambivalent about the cut at first, but I am pretty excited now that I've come home and styled it myself - although I like how my guy cuts, they don't really get the whole messy rock n' roll hair in that particular part of town. After a messier blow-dry and some wax, I'm thinking it's nice for my longer face shape.

What do you think?? I hung out with my best male friend and my sister afterward, and they both thought I could go even shorter if I got used to the whole short hair thing. I haven't showed DH yet, but he is on his way home now!

Wearing a new emerald sweater from the Rack, Japanese jeans, cougar skull necklace, and DIY ombre bag.

Whoa! You look gorgeous with your new cut. Sassy and rock and roll. SO fab!

  • DeclawedJaguar replied 11 years ago

Love the cut! It's very fresh and pretty (in a messy rock-n-roll way) and flattering! So very excited for you. :)

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

AAAH! So sassy! I'm going to recommend a product called Piece Out by Short Sexy Hair which is great for giving my hair some chunky rock-and-roll texture. We're at the same length now! WOOT!

  • cciele replied 11 years ago

Love love love! And yes, you could totally go shorter if you wanted to -- you pull off short really well.

  • Mo replied 11 years ago

Very cute and sassy!! I loved it long, too. Can't lose really :)

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

    Adorable!

  • Kari replied 11 years ago

Wow. That's my first reaction! I love the sassy choppiness of the cut. You're so lucky to look beautiful with short AND long hair.

Were you one of the ones that picked up the powder wax at the Rack? You might have some fun with texturizing your new do!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Ooh, thanks for the rec, Una! I'm on it. I think I also want a flat iron for the very first time in my life... :)

ETA: Kari, yes I did get the powdered wax. It is partially responsible for this style. The original way the stylist did it up, it kinda looked like helmet head. Big Sexy Hair to the rescue!

  • goldenpig replied 11 years ago

Oooh, you look super sassy! Great cut! You and Una are all over the UWP rocker bob!

Although I have to admit feeling a little pang of sadness...I feel like I lost my long straight black hair twin!

    You look great though!

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Rae you look gorgeous. I do love a good bob:). We have a campaigne here at the moment where women are being encouraged to get the chop and donate their hair for wigs for cancer sufferers...is this what you donated your for?

  • replied 11 years ago

Very nice, I think you'll be able to have a ton of fun with it.

  • goldenpig replied 11 years ago

Oh and I forgot to mention, good for you for donating your hair! I did that in 2010...ten inches. I don't think I have the patience to grow it that long again though.

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

Love the new length, it frames your face & makes your eyes & smile just pop (in a good way).

  • anne replied 11 years ago

    Looks good

  • K. Period. replied 11 years ago

Gorgeous! I really love it. I especially love that it is less expected (and therefore to me sexier) than just long hair. The sass of this really suits you!

  • Diana replied 11 years ago

I LOVE IT! And I am totally jealous ... can't wait until after the wedding so I can chop mine off again. Long hair is fun for a while but I'm sick of it.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Yay, thank you for the supportive words! DH also likes it - he said it makes me look younger and was the 3rd person today to immediately ask if I might try going even shorter next time.

Natalie, sorry to leave the hair twin status! If it helps, my sister still has long hair... you may not know her, but another hair twin is out there... you are not alone. :)

Deborah, yes, that was the donation. The salon seems do to it fairly regularly - who knew so many like to chop off all their hair in one go?

K, I think so, too. It was part of what made me finally take the plunge - my hairstyle started to feel ubiquitous here.

Diana, I am very curious to see your short 'do when you get it!

  • deb replied 11 years ago

You look wonderful in short hair!!!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Ooh!! Yay :D You know I love it, and add me to the list that thinks you could certainly go shorter if you wanted. Wax for the win, it looks really great with messy volume. Yah for joining the short spunky hair club, it's so fun \m/

  • harmonica replied 11 years ago

Gorgeous! And yes, you could go shorter next time ;-)

  • Lyn D. replied 11 years ago

  • Claudia replied 11 years ago

Another "Wow!" as a first reaction. You look really beautiful with your new, much shorter style. Love it!

  • Inge replied 11 years ago

It looks fantastic, Rae, and you are going to have so much fun with your new do!

  • Mochi replied 11 years ago

You look fantastic with long hair, and with short hair. Enjoy this new look!

  • Astrid replied 11 years ago

Wow, I love it! You look fantastic with the shorter cut. Have fun with it! :)

  • Raisin replied 11 years ago

It suits your face really well, looks fantastic! That's lovely that you donated your hair, I did that once too, though I didn't really like my short hair. It makes somebody's life just a little better though! I think you could definitely do shorter if you wanted to, but if not, this length is gorgeous.

  • citygirldc replied 11 years ago

Love Love love!! The new do suits you very well.

  • bj1111 replied 11 years ago

props for taking the plunge. you look younger and more sophisticated at the same time...paradoxical, i know. totes adorbs.

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 11 years ago

I hope you are loving it Rae. I mean this in the best possible way ... I think the new do gives you a more mature and professional look and by that I don't mean old - I mean not a kid. You are gorgeous and the shorter do really lets the beauty shine through.

  • melissatc replied 11 years ago

    Very cute cut!

  • Julie replied 11 years ago

Good for you, Rae!! You finally did it! Looks absolutely amazing, too. You made a courageous first step, it's free of your shoulders, and that's always a big milestone for us former long haired girls.

I also agree with the others who have said you should go shorter next time. Hopefully something completely off the ears to show off that gorgeous face.

Looking forward to more pictures of the newly short haired Rae in the coming days. I assume you have already booked your first trim?

    Cheers

    Julie

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

Very sexy. You must feel so free!

  • Janet replied 11 years ago

Awesome! You have such pretty hair, it was nice long, but IMHO this has more *style* if you know what I mean. I think this just amps up your fabness even more! I agree you could go even shorter, but this looks absolutely terrific. Can't wait to see it with your outfits!

  • Preppy Pear replied 11 years ago

You look great with both your long hair and your new crop! And someone will be very lucky to have a wig made with your beautiful hair.

  • Ingunn replied 11 years ago

You look so FAB with that haircut! I know it is daring to cut of all that hair, but it was definitely worth it. Maybe you can go shorter, too, but I love this on you as is. Terrific!

  • teri replied 11 years ago

    wow..... I LOVE it.
I think you could go much shorter too

  • Laura replied 11 years ago

Fresh and soooooo flattering on you, Rae! Kudos to you for taking the plunge!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

YES YES YES!!! This is beyond fab on you Rae. You have such a beautiful face and now we can see all of it.

  • ironkurtin replied 11 years ago

You are always adorable and this is no exception! And just think of the new hair products that await you!

  • Sara L. replied 11 years ago

I love the new cut! My stylish always styles mine weird too - at first I thought she gave me a different cut the first time I had it trimmed after I cut it all off. But no, she just styled it differently. Anyway, you look great!

  • JuneBug replied 11 years ago

Chic! I totally think you could go shorter and look as good as you look right now!

  • Vix replied 11 years ago

    Hi Rae --

I'm a sucker for a dramatic hair transformation and your new cut looks gorgeous on you! As you said it really suits your face shape. I bet it will be super-versatile for you, too. Enjoy!

    OMG! I LOVE IT!!

  • JulieJohn replied 11 years ago

    In a word - beautiful!

  • Jem replied 11 years ago

I had to sign in to say how amazing you look! You look fab in both hair lengths, but think this is way more fun! I'd like it shorter, too (but love this, too)

  • Queen Mum replied 11 years ago

Oh Rae! I love it! So fresh and chic. So glad you took the plunge!

  • pil replied 11 years ago

    Very becoming!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

    Aiiiii!!!!!

I wanted to reply to this all afternoon - I caught a glimpse of the thread but couldn't respond then.

You look fantastic! I absolutely love it. Your long hair was lovely, too, of course, but this just increases your already astronomical style quotient. Your clients are going to be asking you where you got it done.

I hope that styling is a breeze. Enjoy!!

  • replied 11 years ago

OH WOW!!!! I did *not* know this was coming. You look absolutely fabulous. I love the way it's styled with the wax. *muttering* must get some of this wax stuff.....I need the smelling salts! Don't you know this has probably launched Angie right into orbit?!!

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

I LOVE YOUR HAIRCUT! You look beautiful! Such fun and a good cause to boot. Nicely done.

  • Atlantia replied 11 years ago

I love it! I bet you go shorter next time...you can totally pull it off.

  • Marley replied 11 years ago

Just saw your pic and so had to go back and look for this thread! OMG - I absolutely LOVE - LOVE - LOVE your hair. This looks like a *style* - while your longer hair just looked like pretty long hair - although I liked it too. But Rae - this shorter hair ups your style quotient up about 100 per!

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

    Very cheeky and wonderful!

  • Jenava replied 11 years ago

Rae-doll, you are looking fantastic! I love changing my hair - it's so invigorating!

  • Dianne Mae replied 11 years ago

  • Vicki replied 11 years ago

Like Marley, I am so late to the hair party! WOW! Rae, you look so gorgeous and have "the look" and I am so thrilled with it.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Thank you so much for the continued hair validations! I really love my hair with my coats now that it has cooled off. It is so much fun! I definitely know why some love to experiment with their hair now.

  • AngelaGrace replied 11 years ago

    you look pretty

  • Kiwichik replied 11 years ago

Good on you. Your new hair style is really flattering - makes you look like you should be part of the Team on Mission Impossible - female secret agent.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Kiwichik, you have no idea how much that makes my day. :D
