Jacket Challenge Update

As part of the jacket challenge, I've come to terms with the fact that some jackets weren't really following me on my current style journey. So far, I've purged:

- Black Ann Taylor aviator jacket (bought for the bank job last year)
- Emerald H&M jacket (deemed too pretty for me by Angie)
- Dark wash cropped denim jacket
- Caramel Eileen Fischer blazer
- beige suede moto (bought for $1 at flea market)

I am still considering a purge of:
- black faux shearling F21 moto (bought at last year's YLF meetup... this one is sentimental to me and fits so nicely, but it feels strange to wear it when it's warm, and the faux shearling doesn't warm me when it's cold...)
- tan leather Caslon jacket I've been meaning to dye. I may still dye it a distressed emerald color, but I'm trying to decide if I'd wear it once I finished!
- Chocolate brown Allsaints leather jacket - I am seriously re-evaluating the color as one of my neutrals. I am no longer sure it is flattering on me!

I also realized that it's not really fair of me to lump my blazers in with the jacket challenge. I just don't wear them the same way. These days, I wear true jackets much more because they keep my chest warm while I'm on my way in to work. Blazers obviously do not do this - they are indoor decorations for me to wear at DFS or over dresses at parties. They are also part of my aspirational wardrobe because, if I ever get to a full-line store for work, I will want to wear my blazers indoors that way.

Hence, I am taking my blazers OUT of the jacket challenge, effectively halving the numbers to work with, especially since I decided not to break my neck wearing summer-weight jackets in winter. That means I'm not in such crazy shape with my jackets after all! Who knew??

Can we see the potential purges on you? I am considering getting rid of a brown blazer also, and I struggled mightily with (and failed) a purple j. crew blazer. Sigh.

This makes a lot of sense to me, Rae (about the division of jackets). For me, blazers and outdoor jackets are two completely different categories. It is true that sometimes I might wear a blazer as my outdoor jacket, during transitional weather. But in that case I would often keep it on inside as well (though not at home).

My overcoats (or "over" jackets) are entirely different; they would never be worn inside.

I have quite a lot of blazers and almost no regular jackets. That makes sense in a way, since jackets are not as practical in my climate as coats, and I can wear my blazers under coats.

In your case, jackets could potentially be *very* practical and it makes sense you should have a number of them.

Makes sense to me. If i divide this way I think I have roughly even amounts of each -7, for 21 total. I like that! lol

Sounds like a great plan. I own one jacket, and it's denim. I use blazers the most. With a scarf they are my perfect "outerwear" in cool months when I don't need a coat yet.

Oh, and on your division - I did the opposite. I'm testing my blazers/indoor jackets because my outdoor jackets are all in use right now. :)

Una, some of the purges have already been sold and shipped off, but I can show the potentials, for sure.

Mo, I need to do a recount of jacket-jackets and see what my number is. I have a feeling I won't sound so crazy this time around, lol.

Suz, what confused me is that I DO wear my outdoor jackets indoors sometimes, when there is still AC on. But it took me a minute to realize that I don't do the reverse and wear my blazers as outside jackets. It is even more apparent now that I have short hair - and a colder neck! lol

Lisa, that is one perfect denim jacket! I wish I liked wearing scarves more. So far I only wear them for work, but maybe that will desensitize me. :)

Interesting and useful revelations Rae! I am kind of surprised you purged the aviator jacket though - it looked so fantastic on you. But if it no longer fits with your style, "bye bye".
