Scouted: Long and Short Vests

Taking a page from the book of IK today and putting together a hit list instead of shopping for myself! There has been some talk recently about adding structure to the soft, flowy blouses of summer, and my favorite solution so far has been the VEST (waistcoat in some parts of the world). Vests give jacket-like structure and toughness while leaving the arms free to breathe! Here are a few that tickle my fancy...

Thanks for doing the legwork! I really wish I could find a cargo/military vest without bulk at the high hip. Those darn pockets are always in such a bad spot.

Ah, Mo, Zap mentioned she has been searching for the same. Hm, maybe I'll get on that, too.

So fab that you did this! I have a few vests that I am definitely reach for, but I would love to find a sleek utility one, if that's not an oxymoron. One without the bulky pockets (high five Malina!) or the drawstring waist (never seems to hit me in the right spot, plus I don't like the look). So many perfect items to find, so little time........

Thanks Rae for a timely post. I don't often shop the juniors section - and it may end up not fitting, but I did decide just this weekend to order this denim one to try out myself:

Very cute! I haven't really tried vests but maybe I will look at the white denim one!

Great leg work Rae - thanks for posting!

Whew, sorry Mo and Jonesy - I looked through so many vest pics, but the ones without hip pockets were all gear. Fashion gods, are you listening??

Texstyle, that's a cute one! Love the medium wash, since you could pair that with light and dark colors nicely. Cool popped collar, and it must have been popular, since some sizes are already gone!

Such great selection Rae - Mo and I need to pull resources to find that elusive vest. I have a high hip too so I cannot take any bulk there!
We need to get Jonesy on the search team too:)

Zap, it's like thigh pockets on the 90s cargo pants... why do designers think we want pockets there??

  • replied 11 years ago

    I know, seriously!

I have vest #2 in a light blue wash. I've already worn it a ton! It really makes a lot of sleeveless dresses and tops work for me. I love it! I've washed it on cold and air-dried it and it came out great, too.

I need to stay away from your fabulous *scouted* posts! I'll take the RL white one and the grey pleather one, please! Seriously, I'm thinking DIY. Thrifted denim jacket+scissors=vest!

    All fab!

    For you, I like #1, #3 and #8 best.

For me, I like #4 and #7 best.

    :)
